Noel and Sandy Read have, over the last forty years, holidayed extensively, with family and friends, throughout southern Europe – particularly in France, Italy and Southern Spain. Retirement from the teaching profession, three years ago, has enabled them to take more holidays. Much as they both enjoyed their jobs and the constant contact with young people, they enjoy retirement more! Definitely to be recommended.
When old friends, Clive and Lois Edwards, asked them to contribute to this website it was an ideal opportunity to share anecdotes, information and experiences with others. Holidays are for relaxation and “chilling out” but they are also for indulging interests and enthusiasms. Noel and Sandy’s interests are walking, sport (especially golf), art and literature, history, eating and drinking and language (both speak reasonable French and a smattering of Italian and are working on the Spanish) and their contributions reflect these and other enthusiasms.
They would like to think that readers will garner as much pleasure and satisfaction as they have done when visiting the recommended places. The vast majority of Noel and Sandy’s visits to Europe have involved camping in one form or another – from backpacking and cycling as impoverished students to the luxury of air conditioned mobile homes as limbs became stiffer and energy seemed to become less readily available. As recent grandparents they are very much looking forward to introducing their granddaughter to the sort of holidays so much enjoyed by their own two daughters.
