Monte-Carlo

by  Clive & Lois Edwards

Monte Carlo really is just as special as you’d expect, and although you can spend a fortune, you can also find less expensive places to eat, and even to stay if you opt for one of the several campsites within a few miles of Monaco We’ve been fortunate enough to have stayed there, at the Hotel L’Hermitage, on several occasions while competing in the Rallye Monte Carlo Historique. In 1999 we had just limped to finish of the Rally in our 1971 Lancia Fulvia with a burned-out alternator – We called Heritage Breakdown – they arrived within ½ hour with low-loader – Mechanic opened bonnet, shook his head, winched car onto low-loader drove off and disappeared, leaving us on quayside…

Took two hours and numerous phone calls to discover whereabouts of car (and two days to source new alternator)
