Only Mike Cazalet would think of introducing himself with this photograph of the front cover of a magazine from 30 years ago. That’s Mike on the bike with the back end apparently on fire. During the 60’s and 70’s Mike was one of the UK’s best known motor cycle journalists but, in his words, “eventually the joints get a bit too stiff for doing silly things on two and three wheels. Looking around I realised I knew quite a lot about caravans and motor caravans because we used them as accommodation when we were racing, so I just started writing about them.”

Typically for Mike his caravan and motor caravan trips to mainland Europe often involve what he describes as “adventuring.” He organised the trip that saw a caravan towed over Europe’s highest paved road, the Col de la Bonnette and then led a group of petrified journalists towing caravans through the dark caves of the Grand Goulet in the Vercors.

One thing we can say with certainty, if you see Mike’s name attached to an article on this site you can be sure it will have little to do with the popular tourist venues. But if you follow his travels you’ll discover places which will give you plenty to talk about when you get home.
