Don't put the van away

by  John Parsons & Pat Taylor

Imagine the scene: spectacular scenery, mile-long deserted beaches, the soporific sound of crashing surf .  Caribbean?  The Med?  No, Northumberland in November.  We have just returned from a caravan trip to the North East of England.

This lovely coast, all but ignored by tourists in the winter (and not that many in the summer) is well worth the effort.  Sure, you need to wrap up warm as the wind off the North Sea can be rather fresh, but it is a small price to pay.  We walked for miles on the beaches and, once, saw two other people in the distance.

We returned in under half an hour to the warm and cosy comfort of our excellent Xplore 462 caravan sited at the Caravan Club’s Durham site, and for complete contrast visited the famous cathedral and great shopping centre of this stunning city.  Caravanning in winter – magic!
