Crécy (Artois)

by  Clive & Lois Edwards

The village of Crecy-en-Ponthieu lies some 18km north of Abbeville, in the Departement of The Somme, and is best known as the site of the first major British victory of the Hundred Years War, when Edward 111 and the Black Prince won a resounding victory over the French. There is still a cross marking the spot where the French king’s brother (Jean de Luembourg) fell, but there are no other visible signs of this famous battle.
