France has a wonderful range of navigable inland waterways, including many famous rivers such as the Seine and the Rhone, as well as the world-famous Canal du Midi
On most of these rivers and canals it's possible to hire a self-drive cruiser and explore the beautiful countryside that many of these waterways run through.
The hardest part is making a choice of which waterway to explore, but there is now a guide called simply "Boating in France" which provides an introduction to many of the most popular rivers and canals for cruising on, or just for cycling or walking along the towpath!
