Arras

by  Clive & Lois Edwards

Arras, some 115km south-east of Calais, is a busy city which is the capital of the Pas-de-Calis Departement, and was the scene of bitter fighting during the First World War, commemorated by St.Exupery in his book “Flight to Arras” Despite the damage resulting from the war, Arras still has a 17rg century Flemish ambience, particularly seen in the restored Horl de Ville the Place-des-Heros and the Grande Place. There is a cathedral and good museum and art gallery.
